MenAble have recently had the opportunity to spread the word on men’s health in the Pilbara as part of Men’s Health month in July.
The site visit to the Rio Tinto Hope Downs 1 and 4 mine sites provided an opportunity to engage with various teams including training sessions with the peer support team, discussions with leaders and a range of other workers.
Discussions explored concepts such as masculine default behaviours, building a toolkit of self care and communication strategies, the use of mindfulness, emotional literacy, normalising vulnerability and strategies for blokes to support one another.
MenAble board chair, David Barton, commented “It felt like we were building on some great existing foundations of values and behaviours the team have embraced to date”.
As well as promoting Men’s Health, the visit also highlighted to workers the presence of The Man Walk and MenAble in Busselton where approximately 1000 Rio Tinto employees fly in and out of.
